Medicine, Water, and Faith You Can Do The Impossible

A while back my mother gave me a series of audio discs to listen to about healing.  It was shortly after she was diagnosed with lupus and we as a family decided that no disease or diagnosis would ever stop the path to purpose God has for our family.  We began to pray and touch and agree as a family that my mother would be healed and that God’s plan for her life and our family would come to pass.  I thank God everyday that he healed her and continues to bless her with good health. When I listened to the audio recordings the person on the cds spoke about how faith relates to healing.  You see he said the word of God was like medicine and that when we prayed we were having a consult with a supernatural all powerful physician in God that could heal any affliction.  I began to think about that in practical application and I began to ask myself why we don’t tap into the power God provides us more often.  All signs pointed to faith or a lack thereof. In Matthew 14:22-33 the disciples were sent on a boat to a town by Jesus. It was a dark and stormy night and the disciples thought they were seeing a ghost when Jesus appeared to them walking on the sea.  Jesus saw they were afraid and told them not to be scared and that he was with them.  God has to take the storm of fear out of us before he can take the storms out of our lives. Peter trying to really believe this was happening asked Jesus to call him on the water if this was really happening.  Jesus didn’t say, “No” he simply said, “come.”   You see God calls us to do the impossible by faith! It must have taken a ton of faith for Peter to step out of a boat onto the water but the bible says Peter did it and walked on water. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. - Matthew 14: 29, 30 Isn’t it interesting how Peter was fine until he took his eyes off Jesus?  How often have you been given a vision and taken your eyes off the vision to look at all the obstacles and began to sink in your own sea of doubt and fear? As long as he had faith, he did impossible things to do with God’s help.  He kept his eyes on Jesus and walked on water.  When he looked around at the world, he started believing that the storm was going to defeat him.  He lost faith. He took his eyes off Jesus, and he began to sink.  That’s when Peter uttered one of the shortest prayers in the bible, “Lord, save me.”  Everyone needs to say that prayer.  We ALL need Jesus to save us. He is our only hope.  Jesus told Peter he should not have doubted.  When they got back they worshiped Jesus as the Son of God. We have to remember to thank him for the things we accomplish. So why don’t we operate with more power. Well we forget to take our medicine.  When we are sick we go to the doctor, tell him what’s wrong, and take what the doctor prescribes; but when we are spiritually or emotionally ill we fail to read God’s word and consult with the doctor and architect of life.  It’s no wonder why we operate the way we do.  We have no power. We are like Peter paying attention to the storms of life all around us. We sink.  Yet it is when we keep our eyes on our father in heaven that we are able to walk on water and accomplish the impossible.  What is it that you don’t think you can accomplish? I’m here to tell you that the power to do anything can be done with faith. This past weekend my mother graduated from college with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.  She went back to school to finish after putting 2 children through college.  She received nothing but A’s her entire time in the program.  The entire family cheered for her, my dad held down the housework and my sister and I became her peer editors.  I  have to tell you that I celebrated her graduation as I would my own and I’m very proud of my mother.  I don’t tell you to brag or sound arrogant.  I share this for no other reason other than to tell you God can do the impossible if you keep your eyes on him.  If she would have listened to the world or doctors she may not have decided to go back to school but when you keep your eyes on God you can do anything. I believe that and I hope you do as well!
